This stunning card from Egypt will break up the run of very Europe-centric cards I've been posting recently.
The Qaitbay Fort was used in the 15th century as a defensive front on the Mediterranean Sea coast. It was actually built up out of the remains of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Looks very much like a castle, I think. I always think of Alexandria as in the desert instead of on the water. I don't know why. I should know better. What a nice picture!
My mum was born in Alexandria!
@Max, I once had a long discussion with my son about what constitutes a castle versus a palace, and what would smaller versions be. We have some strange discussions in our family, I know. We decided that a fort was a small castle. You knew I'd get to the point in the end.
@Emm, really!! What an exotic place to be born. :) I suppose it's like many other places but it seems exotic to me.
