A week in Florence: Day 1 - Ponte Vecchio

Never postmarked because I enclosed it in an envelope of several I sent to my father. Nevertheless I can date fairly accurately.  I have been to Florence only once - it was after the Uffizi bombing in May 1993, and it was during the school holidays in August of that year.

The Ponte Vecchio is lined with shops, once upon a time these were butchers but now they are jewellers, art dealers and souvenir sellers.

I consider Florence to be almost as romantic a city as Venice. The apartment I rented, for what seemed like a very short week, was very close to the Ponte Vecchio.Reblog this post [with Zemanta]

  1. Florence as romantic as Venice? Not for me. Not yet at least.

  3. I've been twice. The first time, I completely didn't get it -- didn't like it, didn't see what all the hubbub was about. Who knows why. But a few months ago I went again with my teenage son, and loved it! I guess timing really is everything.
