Pennsylvania, USA

Sent in an envelope postmarked Spartansburg, PA, and dated 9 July 2004.

Round Barn in Centre County, Pennsylvania, along State route 45 two miles west of junction State Route 144, just east of State College.

Very few round barns survive today and the remaining ones are registered with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  Shakers built the first round barn believing that the circle was the most perfect shape.  Most were built between 1900 and 1920.

Interesting too, is the spelling of Centre County.  I would have expected Center.

  1. Hi Shiela... that's an interesting structure! Visitors absolutely miss it. It actually reminds me of a museum in my hometown, called Panublion (heritage) museum - it's also round in shape, it used to be a skating rink :)

As an aside, pardon for being forward - I wonder if you'd like to receive a postcard from Cambodia? I've been here many times and I always forgot to ask :)
