This weekend sees the start of the English county cricket season, so when I found this card what else could I choose.
I was brought up in a house where rugby was followed in the winter and cricket in the summer so neither of the games hold any mystery for me. While I've lost anything other than a passing interest in rugby, I enjoy following cricket. But I realise the majority of people who read this blog probably won't have a clue how the game works, so here is a short explanation for you:
You have two sides one out in the field and one in.So there you are. Easy, isn't it?
Each man that's in the side that goes in goes out and when he's out he come in and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
When both sides have been in and out including not outs, that's the end of the game.

i remember those stamps very well! i grew up in taunton within earshot of the somerset county cricket ground. i still remember the team driving through the town in an open-topped bus when they won a couple of championships back in the days of ian "bionic" botham, viv richards and joel garner! happy PFF!

ReplyDeleteHow times change now one code of rugby is played in summer and cricket is watched all year round. I appear to be 'hooked' on the IPL at the moment.

ReplyDeleteHello Sheila. Although I love watching cricket matches, it still is confusing to me. I was introduced to cricket when I was in Sri Lanka. I saw a group of men playing and told a friend if I could try. The men were kind enough to let me and to my utter surprise, it was the Sri Lankan national team! As a souvenir they gave me one of their cricket jersey :D So when I say I love watching cricket games, it's not because I understand how the game goes, but because of that one encounter with the Sri Lankan team :D
