Brisbane
This view of Brisbane, sent to me in happier times, today probably looks very different because of the dreadful floods they have been experiencing. Brisbane sits on the Brisbane river about 23 kilometres (14 miles) from the coast of Australia. Brisbane was declared the capital of Queensland when it separated from New South Wales.
While the floods haven't quite reached the levels feared, they have nevertheless nearly 12,000 homes have been completely submerged and 15,000 partly so. The financial cost will probably rise into billions, the emotional cost can't be counted.

That is a beautiful picture but the scenes I saw the other day were horrible. I can't even comprehend the extent of the loss.
