Danger - man reading

How many times have I been in this position?  Maybe not perched on top of steps, but with more books than hands, arms, or elbows.  Or knees.  I love the painting but I've absolutely no idea who the artist is.

  1. I would like to be there instead of him.. :)

  2. Looks like he could have picked a safer place to read.

  3. It's called "The Bookworm" and it was painted by Carl Spitzweg (1808-1885). It's a detail from a larger painting. The copyright claimed on the postcard by KUNSTKOPIE (art copiers) wouldn't survive a legal challenge. Feel free to print it up yourself and sell it.

  5. It looks like me at the library, trying to narrow my choices down!!!

  6. Just reading ''Alberto Manguel's The Library at Night'' and this picture captures some of its spirit!
    Thanks for sharing.
