Armagh Observatory

Armagh Observatory: The observatory was established in 1791 by Archbishop Robinson.  The domed planetarium, in the grounds of the observatory gives public shows daily and has a new Hall of Astronomy with a telescope for public use.  Any visitor to Armagh Observatory will not fail to be amazed and impressed.
Armagh Observatory was featured on the 22p astronomy stamps issued in 1990, along with Jodrell Bank and La Palma Telescope.  I'm not sure when the card was published and I can't read the postmark on it but now, if not then, the Planetarium is a separate organisation.

The site covers14 acres so I feel sure there is a lot more to it than in this oicture, but I do find it intriguing that such an old building is a home for modern astronomical research.
