Frankfurt am Main

I don't know whether this is what people mean by a city view, but it's what I have always understood, and until recently I haven't felt myself to be especially fond of them.  Now, though, I can see there is more to them than just an array of city buildings.  This one appeals to me in the way the high rise modern architecture rises up from the centre, surrounded by lower development where you can see there are other buildings which were no doubt thought to be high rise when they were first built.

Frankfurt am Main is the fifth largest city in Germany and lies on what was an ancient ford over the river Main.  It is the financial centre of Germany and it is the financial district that has all the skyscrapers.  Frankfurt is the only German city to have so many.

  1. I have always wanted to visit Germany since my middle daughter was an exchange student there for a year in 1991.

  2. You have some very lovely postcards. My sister and I have recently started our postcard blog, we are both trying to send out a card a week. It is a rather fun adventure.

  3. My daughter worked in Frankfurt for a few years. I only visited once but I vaguely remember those bridges. I must have some Frankfurt cards somewhere.

  4. A very nice card, I wouldn't associate sky scrapers with Germany at all, I'm glad they are not 'everywhere' as there is some beautiful architecture.

  5. The view from above really gives you a sense of how big the city is - more so than being there on the ground, I think.

  6. My daughter is studying German and I am taking her there when she finished high school as a reward for her hard work. I can't wait to go there!

Thanks for visiting today-lovely to "meet" you!

    Best wishes,
    Natasha.

  7. Because it includes a river in the cityscape, I like this one. But on HGTV, when some of the buyers rave about what they're viewing from the windows, I scratch my head and wonder Why? Any way, isn't it great that we all don't like the same things?

  8. I have landed at Frankfurt numberous times, changed planes and head elsewhere in Europe. Seems kind of a shame not to have spent at least a night in town!

  9. I have the same kind of experience, RNSANE. My plane landed on Cyprus and it looked like the most beautiful place ever to me at that time. Always wanted to go back and haven't made it yet. But I'm not going to give it up!
