Gaudi
I've only ever managed to visit Spain very briefly but one thing I've always wanted to see for myself, and have yet to achieve, is the amazing architecture of Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona.
Gaudi (1852-1926) combined his passions for nature and architecture to produce the most fantastic buildings, most of which are in Barcelona. He became the leader of the Art Nouveau movement in Spain although his style was completely original and like nothing else you'll have seen anywhere else. Seven of his works are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This card shows the Casa Batlló which was built between 1904 and 1906. Do visit the link (it's the official website) if you want to be amazed. It is now a museum and open to the public.

Barcelona is one of my favourite cities in the world, and I just love the architecture of Gaudi. I have been into a few of his buildings and also visited the Park Güell, which is one of my favourites. It's like being in another land, with the curves and organic shapes that are unworldly.
ReplyDeleteYou really should get back to Spain and go visit some of his buildings. They are incredible. Like nothing I've ever seen before.
@Caroline, you have me persuaded. :)
ReplyDeleteAh another UNESCO World Heritage Site! That’s two I’ve visited in two days. I’ve never been to Barcelona either, but it’s on my list - especially La Sagrada Familia.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought Gaudi was interesting. It was only on my last trip to Spain, where I really took a close look at the design of the interior spaces, that I realized what an incredible genius he was.
ReplyDeleteI went to Barcelona this summer, and Gaudi's work is amazing....Park Güell is like from a fairy-tale. I highly recommend visiting it!
ReplyDeleteAnd Barcelona is just lovely...I absolutely fell in love with it...it is so cozy and nice...the climate is perfect...
@Little Nell, yes I have La Sagrada Familia on my list too!
ReplyDelete@Christine, so true - a genius.
@Ana, I'll take your advice, I really will.
