Made in France

I bought both the card and the sheet of stamps fairly recently and I'm finding it difficult to part with either.

The card is one of the Nouvelles Images series which seem remarkably popular.  Usually people like the multiple images such as teapots or cheeses like these but I must be one of the few who don't much care for them.  The image here is a cockerel, the symbol of France, on top of an old fashioned milestone.  You certainly won't find any like this any more along the N7 which has largely been upgraded to autoroute (autobahn, autostrada, motorway, highway) standard and runs from Paris to the Italian border near Monaco.

As an aside, if you like old cards, old roads, visit the N7 blog.  I found it while researching the route of the road.  It's in French but Google will translate for you if you want.

The sheet of stamps was issued very recently to commemorate the 200th anniversary of its creation by Napoleon.  Firefighters are no longer limited to fighting fires - they specialise in any emergency or disasters, whatever the origin.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  1. Those postcards are wonderful! I like the Cuban cigar line up! Great set of stamps, I'd have to keep them for a while too.

  2. Fine set of stamps. I have worked a lot with the Fire & Rescue services in the UK in providing auditor training.

  3. I love NI cards, not just the multiples, though they definitely are the most popular!

However, this sheet of stamps is just A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I wouldnt be able to part with it, unless I had another one in stock. In general, the French issues often leave me speechless, since they are often issued in lovely sheets like these, which make a fantastic picture as a whole, compared to when you only have separate stamps..

  4. I love the firefighters stamps. It really shows how many different specialities the firefighters have these days. I think there were some British stamps with rescue service too lately.

  5. I can see why you are loathe to part with these, I would be too.
The Pompiers took me to hospital this year when I broke my leg on holiday, they were wonderful.

  6. I like the Nouvelles Images postcards, though I don't have any myself. I'm glad you explained the card, because I didn't know what it was.

I am now finally getting around to commenting - I was away at a professional conference and did not have access to internet.
