We have had more than our fair share of April showers recently, in fact I'd go so far as to call them downpours so we are clearly going to have magnificent flowers this merry month of May. Nevertheless we remain officially in a state of drought. We will not be allowed use hoses to water the garden even if we want to, though at this moment I can't think that anyone would.
The little boy shown on the 1937 postcard from the Netherlands would be fine, at least at this stage, because he is using a watering can for the flowerpots. He's a very neat little boy considering he's out in the garden. My sons never did look like that, ever.

Aw, that photo is so picture perfect!
ReplyDeleteIt even looks like he's wearing an apron. Too cute!

Some kind of tabard I think to keep his best clothes clean. Lovely postcard.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great photograph especially since it was 10 years before I was born.
ReplyDeleteCute picture. No need to boast about your plentiful rain, though.
ReplyDeleteI hope the little boy earned a few coins for helping his mom or grandmother.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute postcard love it............
ReplyDeleteA charming picture.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet picture! Where do you live where the drought is so bad?

The south east of England, believe it or not. :) The result of two dry winters, they say.
DeleteThis April looks like being the wettest for 100 years despite our official drought conditions. Our watering can has filled itself this weekend; and it's not much different to that used by the little Dutch boy.
ReplyDeleteWe had a rainy day yesterday, and if it had been just a little colder it could have been snow. The flowers and other plants are confused because we had a very warm month of March.
ReplyDeleteI need to untangle my tongue from useless attempts to pronounce the greeting on that card.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable little boy. I like his apron! I hope you get enough rain (though not all at the same time) that you're no longer in a state of drought.
ReplyDeleteThe shadows in the photo are lovely - softens up an already gentle scene. I've never seen a little boy with a watering can before. The way his head is cocked it looks as if he's talking on an invisible phone. "Yes Mom, I'm watering the flowers".
ReplyDeleteThat's an adorable card. I'll bet you're really looking forward to those May flowers.

Very sweet young man. I wonder if some kind of delicious treat awaits him for his attention to chores. Me, of course, always thinking of food though I will NOT regain those 25 lbs lost in India.
