I struggled to find anything very appropriate for this week but I settled on the series of five stamps depicting the Spanish Armada. My theory was that Britain maintained its independence by fighting off the Armada, a battle to retain its liberty from invasion by Spain. I particularly liked the stamp shown because it shows the white Cliffs of Dover at the top behind the queen's head.
Of course, after I had scanned the card, I suddenly remember I have a stamp card that is even more to the point.
It's one of the very few maxicards I have. It's just a shame the "First day of issue" cancellation was smudgy.

The Spanish Armada stamp is just fantastic! Great colours and image. A stamp worth gushing over, for sure! :)

DeleteThe stamp of the Armada Invencible is amazing (although it hurts me a little... haha). The maxicard of B. Franklin is very appropiate too for this week's theme of Independence.

DeleteI'm glad you had the Benjamin Franklin stamp, Sheila - it's much better than my catalogue image. I must look ot for that Armada series.

DeleteThe armada stamp is very colorful. The design reminds me of images I have seen of Chinese dragons.
