Girl with a doll

Meisje Met Pop, or Girl with Doll, is a picture by Jan Sluyters (1881-1957), a watercolorist, graphic designer, illustrator, painter and illustrator. This portrait was painted in 1928.  His works include children's portraits like this one but also still lifes, historical scenes, interiors and landscapes.  However he may be best known for his portraits of women.

I thought at first it was just a cute little girl but the more I look at it, the more character I can see in it.  She's obviously been dressed in her best clothes for the picture, though I'm not sure how thrilled she is with the experience.

This is a post for Postcard Friendship Friday hosted on Beth Niquette's blog The Best Hearts are Crunchy.

  3. Pictures of little girls with their dolls are especially appealing, and she does have a lot of character.

  5. I think I have a similar photo as a child, where I don't look very pleased at all because the plastic doll that I'm holding was missing a leg -- the dog bit it.

Thanks for this card that reminded me of a childhood memory! Happy weekend.
