A kampong house

The main characteristic of this traditional Malaysian house is that it is on stilts to avoid floods and the attentions of wild animals.  In Melaka and Riau the stairs to the main entrance are decorated with colourful and intricate tiles.

  1. These houses can be found almost anywhere in Malaysia, in the rural districts/villages. Some are built on higher stilts just so they can park their cars under the house (literally), I've seen some, really. :D

  2. Some houses in the Philippines have the same style, sans the colorful stairs. Our old house was also on stilts.

  3. How beautiful! I love the rust on the roof. It does make me want to go out and paint it though. I imagine it would be a lot of fun and a great way to get a tan.
