Military maids

I saw the peaked hat in the photo prompt and remembered this postcard.  It's one of a set of four that I have, though I feel sure there was a larger set when published.  The publisher was A. Vivian Mansell & Co. Ltd., a publishing company that came into being in 1910 and was certainly still going in 1947.

The three others I have are Belgium, France and Russia.  The uniforms look World War I to me but I'm no expert.

A post for Sepia Saturday.  A click on the button will take you to the Sepia Saturday blog where you can find links to all the other people taking part.

  1. I think that is a Tsarist Russian Eagle on her hat, so WW1 would seem a good bet.

    Rather attractive set of cards

  2. They definitely don't look like WWII.

  3. Very artful cards. The Belgium cap is also early WW1. Do you think there could be more? Serbia, Italy, even America (which would date it to 1917) collect them all!

    1. I did see an image for Italy and for Russia but so far that's all.

  7. Lovely set of cards, I haven't seen any of those before. Something (else) to look out for :)

  9. Oh, these are really lovely. I agree with Mike, it would be fabulous to see a full set but these make a nice foursome.

  10. I agree that the caps look like Great War era shape, but I've not come across caps with the Union Jack on them - or, for that matter, the RF. I think they and the uniforms have employed a little inventiveness.

  11. I wonder about the purpose for the cards.
