From 1982, a set of stamps as shown on PHQ (Postal HeadQuarters) stamp cards, depicting youth organisations. The upper ones are the Girls' Brigade and Boys' Brigade, the lower ones Guides/Brownies and Scouts/Cubs. I believe all these organisations have changed fairly radically since 1982 in an effort to remain relevant with the changing times.
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"
Yet another set that I have not seen before, I can only plead I was out of the country when these were issued.
ReplyDeleteI only vaguely remember seeing these even though there would have been more post with stamps on back in the early 1980s. I've wondered what PHQ stood for.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was at the Brownies/Guides age (60s) you knew a lot of people who were also involved or at least familiar with it, but now I don't know anyone whose children are in Brownies.
ReplyDeleteWe have Girl Scouts and brownies in the USA, and Boy Scouts and cubs. I am not familiar with the brigades.
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating this week!
Yes the guide/scout uniforms are radically different nowadays.
ReplyDeleteGreat stamps! Yes, I was a Brownie in England and so I wore that uniform. Everything about the Brownies has changed radically, not just the uniforms!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that they still exist. In the US,I always look forward to the annual sale of Girl Scout cookies..yummy, especially the samosas.
