With her nose in a book
Today is International Day of the Girl so I've chosen this Dutch reproduction of an old postcard of a girl in a corner, reading, surrounded by books. The title on the back is given in Dutch as "Met de neus in de boeken" or "With her nose in a book", photographer unknown.
I think that's a blissful place to be and I could probably be found in a very similar position, lost to the world, many times when I was that age. Sadly many girls in the world today don't have that opportunity.
This is a post for Postcard Friendship Friday hosted on Beth Niquette's blog, The Best Hearts are Crunchy.

Hello Shiela! I was out of an idea on what postcard to post for PFF but thanks for this, I'm gonna follow your example! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeletePS. I agree with you, I believe this young girl is in the most blissful place on earth! I used to to the same back in the university. There's the 'reference section' in the library with the most beautiful books, but they can't be taken out from there. So I spent countless hours inside with my nose on a book. I could have spent whole day... only that I had my classes that I couldn't miss ;-)
I LOVE this postcard. This is SO me. I couldn't read when I hit second grade. They put me into a special class where they taught me to read using the Distar Method. I was reading the reader's digest by the end of the year. I used to get in trouble for reading when I should have been doing math!
ReplyDeleteMy house is filled with books. Thank you for posting this one!
Happy PFF!
Being surrounded by books is blissful, but I would prefer to curl up in a big and soft chair!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely postcard! And a sentiment that is universal!
ReplyDeleteI never knew there was such an event but this is a lovely picture and I can remember being that girl myself.
