Salon d'Agriculture

 a

2013 was the 50th anniversary of the International Agricultural Show which is held, rather strangely to my mind, in Paris each year.  La Poste marked the 50th anniversary with a special issue of stamps and you can indeed see the Eiffel Tower in the background behind the cow carrying all those animals.

It is more than animals though, there are sectors for produce, gastronomy (this IS France we're talking about) crops, plants, nature and lifestyle, and agricultural services and professions.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  1. Nice stamp to match the pc. There used to be the Smithfield agricultural show in London at Earls Court, I don't know when that finished, but I presume it is a thing of the past.

  2. What a coincidence, I posted the same stamp! But yours is better because on my blog the postmark spoiled a bit the stamp... Thanks for the information, too.

  3. I also have this stamp and thought it was cute... but never bothered to research it. We have an annual agricultural fair in Toronto every year (over 100yrs now) and it's marketed as a way for the city to meet the country.

  4. I wonder if the size of the animals in the stamp is relative to their importance. It plays havoc with one’s sense of perspective; perhaps they’re all just further away than the cow :)

  5. Hmm, I never noticed the Eiffel tower and the Arche in the background! I hope the show is still going on.
Thank you for joining us, even when traveling.

  6. Well it's a different way of promoting the event, but I'd rather see the animals themselves. Is the horse include because they eat it?

  8. You are right, a capital city is an unusual place to have an agricultural show, possibly would only happen in France. I like the unusual perspectives.
