It was just a few days ago that a card arrived from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with wonderful stamps. The stamps are gold coloured which never does scan very well but - to me - the remarkable thing about the second two stamps is that they are transparent. If you click on the image for an enlarged view, I think you can see it more clearly because the vertical lettering from the postcard can be seen through the stamp. They commemorate the Second Arab Stamp Exhibition
The card itself is also worthy of mention because it shows a wind tower or windcatcher. This is a traditional Persian method of natural ventilation or air conditioning. You can find a good description of how it works on Solarpaedia.
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"
I don't see many UAE stamps so it was a pleasure to see these.
ReplyDeleteThe gold design on the transparent stamps really stands out when enlarged.
ReplyDeleteThe stamp exhibition stamps give an amazing three dimensional effect.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to receive such a postcard and stamps.
ReplyDeleteenlarging the transparent stamps is a must to fully appreciate it's design!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen these kind of stamps before! These make me jealous, as I'm student of Arabic language and it's really difficult to get mail from Arabic countries... Thanks for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteThe last two are really beautiful stamps. They do look 3-D. The clear material must be some sort of plastic?
ReplyDeleteThe transparent stamps are fantastic. I liked learning about wind catchers too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating!
