Stonehenge
I visited Stonehenge today for the first time ever. When my sons were at primary school I had to drive past the stones regularly. I always thought I must go and see them but never did get around to it until now.
Stonehenge, Avebury and associated sites are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. Stonehenge is only part of that, the part that everyone seems to know. Avebury is entirely separate and almost an hour's drive away but also in Wiltshire, towards the west of England.

I always wanted to see Stonehenge. Is it truly Awesome? It must be.
ReplyDeleteIt is and it isn't. Obviously there are an awful lot of people around and that detracts from the feeling of awe but, that said, they seem to have got things sorted out that really you can get a very good view. I did manage to take a good few pictures without there being people in the shots. Maybe it will get busier in August but the lady in the shop said it has been non-stop since they opened the new visitor centre during the winter.
DeleteAh, my old back yard: I used to live in Salisbury until we moved to Lanzarote.
ReplyDeleteAh, I love Salisbury! I didn't make it this visit, but next time I will.
