Cultural traditions

In 1976  commemorative stamps were issued to illustrate British cultural traditions, all closely linked to music and, as you can see, some musical instruments.  They show a  Welsh Archdruid, English Morris dancing, a Scots piper, and a Welsh harpist.

Later, in 1984, one of a set of stamps about the work of the British Council included this one.  The others were on the subjects of medicine, construction and language.

Gilbert & Sullivan

A colourful set of stamps was issued in 1992 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Arthur Sullivan, the composer who is probably best known for his work with dramatist WS Gilbert.  Together they produced 14 operatic works.

Five of these works were represented on the stamps.  The missing one is an 18p stamp, The Yeomen of the Guard.

It's good that you're you ...

... and I can be myself...
A postcard sent from Lithuania.  I used Google translate to tell me what the Lithuanian words mean so I am prepared to be corrected. :)

The little boy's saxophone is almost as big as he is, so I'm fairly confident this displays some artistic licence.  I do enjoy street musicians.  The very best can be found near good music schools, a great treat for passers-by.
