Golden Gate Bridge

The unmistakeable Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  It was once the longest suspension bridge in the world, now 9th.  It carries over 100,000 vehicles a day.  It also has the rather dubious distinction of being the most popular suicide venue in the world.

  1. There is a similar-looking bridge spanning Tipperary harbouur I believe, though not as well noted for suicides.

  2. It has been over 40-some years since I've crossed that bridge (the one in San Francisco.) Time flies when you are having fun. :)

I wonder if it is still safe? Is it still used?

I've read they paint it continuously. Is that true? Actually, I think they paint it red. Golden, I mean.

  3. That is an amazing angle. Suspension bridges are quite beautiful, I think.

  4. I would love to go to San Francisco one day and see this bridge. We were going to go off to California next year but we shall have to get through this year first!

  5. Love seeing the GGB on your blog. I crossed over it today in fact. The views are spectacular either direction.

  6. @Max, please don't confuse my readers with Tipperary. :) It's not the bridge that's golden, it's the gate, though I can't see it myself.

@jabblog, yes,I hate to think where the photographer must have been perched, but the end result is fantastic.

@Emm, I await your itinerary with interest. :)

@Mary, did you really? I suppose it's an everyday event if you live there while something special for everyone else.

  7. Well, the bridge is in continuous use. They have put fencing up on a certain portion to try to deter suicide attempts.

The color of the bridge, I believe, is called
"International Orange" - I love the bridge and have dozens of pictures in all kinds of light and forms - fog, moonlight, bright's magical.

  8. It always makes me nervous when I see the GGB. For what reason, I have no idea. It's massive and I have a tiny fear of heights. That may be it. lol

Welcome to my postcard collection! I love hearing what you think of the cards - but spam WILL be deleted.
