I was going to do a completely different post today, a follow on from the previous one, but this morning's post brought this card from Australia, so much in the news recently. I can do no better than to quote part of the message:
This was the South Bank before the flooding. it was a lovely place where you could go and have picnics and barbie with mates and family. It had a man-made "beach". But now all of it is gone. If I'm no mistaken, the river rose up to the level where you see those people walking, perhaps higher.I don't think, unless you have experienced floods, just how much devastation they can bring. And then to be followed by cyclone Yasi, Australia really isn't so lucky at the moment.
This is a post for Postcard Friday, which is hosted by Beth Niquette at The Best Hearts are Crunchy.
You're right, they really have been pounded this year. So sad. I have never experienced a flood, so I can only imagine how horrible it is.
ReplyDeleteI have experienced one with Floyd in 1999 and it leaves behind the nastiest mess. I really feel for those unfortunate people.
ReplyDeleteOdie
If the pictures of the flood were not enough this postcard message really brings it home. They must be wondering when this disaster will end.
ReplyDeleteThat postcard is worth something now that everything has changed so much. Great post.
ReplyDeleteWe dealt with hurricane Ike several years ago and it still makes me shudder to remember the storm and for us, it wasn't nearly as devastating as what poor Australia has had to deal with. Lovely post. Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I don't live there.
ReplyDeletePretty postcard but a sad situation in Australia.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful card. So sad what is going on in Autralia.
ReplyDeleteThere has been so much devastating weather in Australia. I am so sorry for those poor people.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to understand the extent of the devastation, and how long it continues to go on. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI have been there before. I am really sorry for those who are affected but hope they recover very soon.
ReplyDeleteWe have been there too at our honeymoon. Brisbane with its old, wooden houses and meandering river though the city is such a happy memory. I'm really sad that the people we've met then (and some became friends) are now into this mess.
ReplyDeletethanks for reminding us of the difficulties others are facing so far away...climate change is happening now, across the planet.
ReplyDeleteYou need to keep an eye open for the anthology '100 Stories for Queensland' which will be out shortly - all proceeds to help those hit by the floods. Check out the 100 Stories website.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame. It looks like a lovely place. I really feel for those people going through all that!
ReplyDeleteThese terrible tragedies remind us that Mother Nature can wreak havoc with our lives.
ReplyDeleteThat does look like a lovely place.
ReplyDeleteThere have certainly been floods here. Thankfully I live far enough away from rivers/streams to have never been affected, but I have seen the devastation that floods have brought to others in my state.
