Stamps from Ethiopia

I found this postcard among several others from Africa, the first I've seen illustrating stamps.  It was sent in August 2008, but apparently inside an envelope because there is no address or stamp on the reverse.  The message is clearly from an aid worker in Ethiopia, and sounds rather despairing.

"..we must have a new project agreement, otherwise we have to leave the country.  It is so much more complicated here ... At the moment we have major team problems ... Sometimes only prayer keeps me here"

It must be a very special person who can work in a country with the problems they have.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  1. Beautiful stamps but a plea from someone in despair.

  2. Delicate flower stamps. I worked with someone who went to Ethiopia for a few months at a time with an aid project, he loved the people and country but the poverty got to him so much one day he found himself going into a church (he wasn't religious) and crying.

  4. They are beautiful and that land is so different from the paradise my friend Desiree lives in down in South Africa.

  5. These are beautiful! Ethiopia is a favorite of mine, because I picked it as my main study in school....we had to follow for the year everything.....and so even today it stands out to me....the Ethiopians are amazing people...as someone said, our struggles make us stronger...

  6. Thank you for particiapting. What a contrast between the delicate flowers and the message on the other side.

  8. The stamps looks like miniature pressed flowers.
Doesn't this make you wonder whatever happened to this aid worker and hi/her team?

  9. Those are the first Ethiopian stamps I've seen before also. Beautiful. Very sad message though. Wonder how things panned out for the person.

  11. I have nothing but admiration for those who work in countries like Ethiopia, Rawanda, the Sudan...they are so brave and give much to help relieve the suffering in these places.
