... as well as a lioness, a giraffe, nyala (the darker antelope) with greater kudu females and Burchell's zebras. I didn't know there were different types of zebra but it makes me wonder if there aren't different types of giraffe. Maybe somebody can tell me.
The card was sent from East London, South Africa in February 1991. It's not very old, I thought at first, then did my adding up and fount it to be over 20 years. How can that be?!
I have been avoiding Sepia Saturday because I am away from my sources of older postcards. However I couldn't resist rising to the challenge set by Little Nell on my last post, so here it is.
A post for Sepia Saturday. A click on the button will take you to the blog.
Wonderful postcard with all the animals. I always love elephants.
ReplyDeleteHurrah! I knew you would!
ReplyDeleteSA is one of my favorite places to see scenes.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Don't avoid us, we miss you!
ReplyDeleteI don't always have old photos either but I think we all like a good story or learning something new or old. I don't know much about wild animals so didn't know about the different varieties you mentioned.

Hurrah for Little Nell throwing down the gauntlet and Hurrah for you picking it up! Since there are African and Indian elephants, maybe there are indeed different types of zebras. See, your little postcard has everyone thinking.
ReplyDeleteGreat postcard! So, I did a little digging and found out that yes, there are different types of giraffe. According to the website eHow, there are six main species and several sub-species.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a thought-provoking post.
Well done, Sheila. Great card and not just for the elephant.
