Australian Christmas stamp
A beauty from Australia which arrived just a few days ago. It is based on a tapestry commissioned by an Australian collector and woven in England between 1900 and 1902. Its title was Adoration of the Magi based on a design by Edward Burne-Jones. I'd love to see the original tapestry.
It is one of two stamps with religious themes out of a set of five issued by Australia Post this year.
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Stamp#44:Christmas
Australia do some nice Christmas stamps. This one is superb, especially as a maxicard. I've never seen any of Burn-Jones' tapestries but see there were ten versions of this woven with different borders. Now all I have to do is pick my destination!
