Ivor the Engine

I've really had to stretch a point today to find any public transport that I haven't done before.  I'm having to hope Ivor the Engine did carry passengers.

Ivor the Engine was a children's TV programme during the 1970s, based on a book published in 1962.  The Royal Mail recently published a series of stamps commemorating children's TV, this being the PHQ stamp card of one of the 12 special stamps.

In a later incarnation of Ivor the Engine, a locomotive was adapted to look like Ivor and appeared at a number of heritage railways.  These are railways which were once closed down but then reinstated, repaired where necessary and run by volunteers.  I used to live near the Watercress Line in Hampshire where Thomas the Tank Engine was a frequent visitor but I never did see Ivor.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  1. This was a lovely set, I bought quite a few of this set, but haven't used them yet, anyway they are nice to look at when I go into my book of stamps to choose which to use.

  2. This looks better than Thomas the Tank.
I hadn't heard of Ivor the Engine (not surprising, considering my age and location!). Anyway, I found many episodes uploaded on youtube. Love that Welsh accent!! and the choir singing at the end of eps 1 & 2. have bookmarked the rest to watch later :)

  3. Cute stamp, and I like that the engine goes outside the frame! I am not familiar with Ivor in the USA.
    Thank you for participating!

I didn't hear of Ivor the Engine before, either, so it's great to learn about this!
