The wooden church of St Michael the Archangel
The Church of St Michael the Archangel in the village of Uzhok, Ukraine, is an example of the wooden churches (tserkvas) found in Poland and Ukraine. Sixteen of them are mentioned on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Uzhok is on the highest pass in this section of the Carpathians. the church, built 1745, was originally further up the mountain but was rebuilt in this position to allow easier access.
The entrance vestibule has a double-tented roof, while the nave is higher with three tiers.
