Alanya, Turkey

Postmarked Alanya, dated 3 June 1992.

Alanya - Turkey

Alanya is a seaside resort and district in the Mediterranean region of Turkey.  It has changed hands many times over the years, and had many name changes as a result.  The name Alanya was not finalised until 1935.

The castle which can be seen here is medieval, built on earlier Byzantine and Roman fortifications.  It is 250 meters high on a rocky peninsula, protected on three sides by the sea.Reblog this post [with Zemanta]

  1. Like most Turkish towns on the Med, this is an amazing place to visit. It has history, beaches, nightlife, anything you could want.

  3. @Chris, I'm always surprised, though I shouldn't be, at just how much history there is in Turkey. I've never been to Mediterranean Turkey, only Istanbul.

@Shauni, I nearly forgot about the award, sorry. I'll be over!
