Luxor, Egypt

I can't read the postmark, but it's presumably Cairo because that is where my friend lives.  The date is 11 August 2009.
Egypt - Luxor: the Temple of Luxor, colossal head of Ramesses II.

My friend who sent this tells me Luxor used to be called Thebes.  I hadn't realised that.  The Greek poet Homer described the wealth of Thebes in his epic poem, the Iliad.

  1. One day I will visit Egypt. Maybe I can drag my Mum there - she was born in Alexandria.

  2. We went to Luxor this year. Wonderful experience. At the Sound and Light Show at Karnac Temple you learn all about Thebes in ancient times. I have blogged about it a bit.
