Constellation

The New Type Constellation, made famous by Eastern Airlines, is the Queen of all air transportation.  It is one of the largest and most powerful airliners in commercial service today.
There's no substitute for Eastern's experience, "Tried and Proven" over billions of passenger miles.

  1. as much as i hate to fly, i really have to admit that i LOVE planes from an aesthetic point of view and those vintage silver airliners are just fabulous. i believe howard hughes had quite a hand in the development of this one...

  2. They are beautiful, aren't they? But I love to fly so I'm always happy with them. I didn't see the film, The Aviator, but I believe it tells Howard Hughes story as an aviation pioneer.

  3. Actually Howard Hugh's TWA airline made the Connie famous, but Eastern can (an apparently did) claim it too.

An odd coincidence that I am now researching a story of a famous air collision and crash of a Connie and a United DC-7 over the Grand Canyon in 1956. (That involved a TWA Super Constellation, though, a bit larger, I think, than the earlier one in your picture.)

I don't know why disasters interest me so much.

  4. @Max, I suppose that's long enough ago for me to dismiss it as "history". I don't want to become afraid of flying, please. :)

  5. Eastern Airlines - that's a blast from the past. I used to love it when they did their special $300 unlimited mileage deals - one month, anywhere on their route. I went all over the place.

  6. I'm not a huge fan of flying, but I've always loved these old commercial aircrafts. I remember flying on "peoples" I think the name is correct, and getting free lunch and unlimited cheese wheels. Ridiculous as it sounds, and it's not as old as this aircraft, however it reminds that flying used to be so enjoyable. Oh, and cheaper! lol

  7. What a great plane. Sadly it began at the same time as the Comet, and the jet age caused it to fail. They are still flown in some areas.
