A week for water: 7 Cascades again

Well, I didn't think ahead terribly well and we have the Eventail waterfall again, one of the many in the Jura in France.  The card is dated 2003, even more recent than the previous one and yet I think it somehow looks even more retro than the first, as pointed out by Emm, one of my regular visitors.

But this one I chose to end my series for a reason.  At the bottom it says "Le Pays où l’homme s’épanouit", which translates as the land where man flourishes.  We need all sorts of things in order to flourish and water is the most basic of these.  Today is Blog Action Day, this year for water and that's why I've had this series for the week.

Mostly we take it for granted, water, but so many people in the world struggle with too little, too much, or polluted water.  And they find it hard to flourish.  Did you know, I find this a truly startling fact, that more people have access to a cell phone/mobile phone than have access to clean water?  And yet it's true.

Makes you think, doesn't it?

This is a post for Postcard Friday, which is hosted by Beth Niquette at The Best Hearts are Crunchy.

  1. That's very true. Well from the past, not just long ago. It seems so ridiculous that people is investing in bottled water. But, now some bottled water are more expensive than your favorite drink or a pop soda.

I hope my children can still see beautiful waterfalls.

  2. Thank you, Sheila! I didn't know about Blog Action Day until I read your post. I am now composing the an action post for my blog for tomorrow's publication. It is still the 14th here in the US.

  3. Great topic for the blog of action day! I'm quite new in the world of blogging, so I wasn't aware of this day until now. Anyways - Norwegian TV2 did a documentary on Voss Water recently. http://www.tv2nyhetene.no/innenriks/en-kilde-i-uberoert-natur-i-soernorge-beskyttet-mot-forurensning-av-lag-med-fjell-og-is-3302850.html Dodgy industry, eh?

    Happy friday :)

  4. Hi Sheila, and you are so right about the lack of clean water for many of the people. Lately we have even come to doubt the purity of the bottled water that costs us so much. We decided to install a filter on our tap and will stop buying endless bottles of water to fill our landfills. I found your site on blogs of note and really have been enjoying reading about water. My wife and I love waterfalls and the sound of running water. I think it will be an educational experience for me to follow you and I welcome you to mine any time at:

  5. This has to be my favourite blog site! I have kept all my postcards from family and friends through the decades and I also have a few earlier ones, too. When friends come to stay, they always ask to see the albums and I know they're looking for the postcards they sent to me! It's not just the pictures but where they went and what they got up to which is interesting. Anyway, loving your blog. Jane x

  7. I like your Blog Action Day post. I did my post a bit earlier and then decided to check on blogs that I subscribe to and there you were, taking action, too. Thanks for the lovely watery postcards.

  8. WOW great blog! People should be doing everything they can individually to conserve water. It's a shame to take such an essential part of our life and world for granted.

Just a few tips I've come across personally that can help conserve is to fix your leaky faucets and plumbing joints.
    Install water-saving shower heads.
Run only FULL loads in the washing machine and dishwasher. (This one alone can save 300-800 gallons per month!)
And shorten your showers, even if it's just by one or two minutes :)

Enjoyed your week of water and thanks for your German translation.

  11. I guess I have never heard about blog action day. My comment on water - we are so fortunate here to have good clean water and I, being a very old person, simply cannot see buying water to drink when the water that comes from our taps is very good. The water that is being sold is probably from some other tap anyway. And it would save a lot of plastic going into the landfills. Happy PFF!!

  12. We have a well with good water and a seasonal flowing creek. But the best views of water are the falls in Yosemite Park an hours drive away.

  13. A very nice addition to the Blog Action Day posts. But in the frame of our weekly PFF travels I also like it because it shows another beautiful spot I have to visit, once. Thanks for sharing.

  15. You're right! It is even more retro!! (Thanks for the shout out!)
How lovely that you did this series in aid of the Blog Action Day. I think we absolutely take our water supply for granted and we abuse it and pollute it while so many people don't even have running, clean water.
