Kiev/Kyiv

I've been meaning to show this very attractive maxi-card from Ukraine for Sunday Stamps for quite a while but I've been held back because I have no idea what it commemorates.  But when I looked at the stamps on the reverse I decided today was the day.

Each one of these stamps shows one or more women.  The odds have to be that at least one of them is a mother, and that's about as close as I can get to a Mother's Day theme.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  2. Is that a stamp on the front at the top left? Colourful card and interesting stamps. I've never seen a Ukraine stamp before.

  4. Sheila, I am so drooling over this maxicard and the stamps! The stamps, not only feature women, but you can also see the traditional clothes (which is my favourite).

  8. Postcardy, thank you for that link - it's starting to make sense. It seems that Kyiv Pechersk Lavra or the Kiev Monastery of the Caves is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 1990, the date on the stamp.

  9. Interesting painting MC. So, Pope Clement I's head lies in the Far Cave there. Holy...see? [Vatican City / Holy See].

  12. What a marvellous maximum card, with such attractive stamps. The one in the middle of the set of three looks as though it may come from a story.

  13. I think you made a lovely choice for your Mother's Day card, Sheila. I was in West Sacramento for the weekend, visiting my middle son, Alex, his wife, Laura, and my two granddogs.

  14. Pretty postcard, it looks like it was drawn with pastels or pencils. The first part of the Cyrillic says Oleksandr Gubarev but I got nothing from googling that name though!
