Trains

Magritte's "Time Transfixed" (1939) side by side with "Accident at the Gare Montparnasse, Paris (1895).  From Lawrence Weschler's book "Everything that rises: a book of convergences".

The pictures amuse and fascinate me so much I think I may even try to get hold of the book.  It is full of coincidences and echoes over time and space.

  1. I've seen the accident photo, but somehow I've missed ever seeing the Magritte piucture. Great to see them side by side.

  2. Intriguing, although I wouldn't have wanted to be on that French train. No brakes?

  3. @Christine, the Magritte is new to me too. You can't help wondering if he based it on the accident.

@Bob, faulty brakes and drivers trying to make up lost time were blamed, they say. Pretty spectacular all the same to go through the buffers and right out through the wall like that.

  5. Woah! The accident card is really freaky! Inspired having the two together.
