Better than video games
I was at a loss for something to post for today, until I read Beth's post about Video Games Day, today 8 July. I've found an example of what can be done without video games or computers, just a little bit of make-believe. I'm only surprised they didn't improvise a drum.
I do wonder if video games and such are expanding horizons in one direction but limiting children's imaginations in other ways.
This card was sent to a small boy in the Netherlands in 1937 from his aunt. Three years later, war broke out and within another year the Netherlands had been invaded. Before long, toys were the least of their worries.
This is a post for Postcard Friendship Friday, which is hosted by Beth Niquette at The Best Hearts are Crunchy.

I think they should have a drum. I am not musical, but I have good rhythm. I played the drum in the school band.
ReplyDeleteI'm also surprised there isn't a drum, but I love the horn.
ReplyDeletecute kiddos!
ReplyDeletei miss the carefree days of my childhood.
Ahhh very nostalgic! In my time (not so long ago, you know hehehe), we used to play "house". We made houses out of carton boxes and blankets for roofs. We have plastic cooking utensils and we used leaves for food. Good, old days and this postcard just reminded me of those times :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Sheila.
This is a lovely card and a very good portrait of what should kids enjoy during childhood. Lucky are the kids who still experience nature like this in this modern times.
ReplyDeleteReading at the end of your posts made me sad a bit thinking where the recipient of this card went when the war broke out.
I followed you and I hope you can follow me, too! ^^
Great choice,I love this card a lot.
ReplyDeleteI think kids before play musical instrument plainly for fun, nowadays, because most of the parents force them too and I pity them.

Great picture. It's always a struggle to get the kids off the xbox, but once they are outside there's often a kind of, "hey this is actually quite fun" realisation.
