Christmas stamps

This is the full offering of Christmas stamps from France this year.  They are really very small stamps and it's hard to make out what they show.  In fact the first three scans are all from the same booklet and, if it weren't for the Father Christmas on the last page, I would have thought they could be for almost anything.

The second booklet is called "Nativities", again very small stamps, but at least they provide a list of the museums where the original paintings can be found.  To find out what the paintings actually are, you have to visit La Poste.

I'm not quite sure why they produce such small stamps unless it's to save money in paper costs.  The UK stamps for the last two years have been small format too.  Personally, I prefer something a little more showy.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  1. Thank goodness for the lightbox views in which you can make out the message on each although I'm still struggling to work out what some represent.
I don't like the UK stamps either this year.

  2. really tiny indeed. zoom here works nice but im not sure how these look on a real envelope.
However, at least you really have a nice variety of stamps compared to the single stamp Macedonia issues each year.

    Have a Merry Christmas!

  3. Wow what a lot of stamps France issues for Christmas. I don't like the small format either, not only do you have to squint at them they look all wrong cards. No idea why they do it.

  4. At first I didn't like them, but now I do. I like having a choice and that they are "forever."

  5. They are small aren’t they? I agree, something bigger would be nice. I hadn’t thought about the UK stamps. I’ve only seen the 68 pence one as that’s what it costs to send a card here to Lanzarote! I do like the stamps with real works of art though.

  9. I like the two in the third set - but the others are a little baffling.
As for the last set, it is nice to have that explanation of where they are from. But so tiny - my eyes don't like that idea at all!!

  10. Thank goodness for the larger view! I can't tell how big they are, they seemed big enough when I clicked on them. I don't think I like them very much but then I have to admit that I didn't see the English ones this season either.

  12. Nice miniatures...probably the idea is to save space for writing, on postcards. :)
