Prudence Heward from Canada

Prudence Heward didn't come from Ontario but from Montreal in the neighbouring province of Quebec, however the map postcard arrived with this lovely stamp featuring one of her paintings, "Rollande".

Prudence Heward (1896-1947) was an artist at a time when woman had a marginal place in the art world.  She specialised in depicting "strong, serious and defiant woman".  A second of her paintings, "At the Theatre", was featured on another stamp at the same time.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  1. Fine stamp and a artwork worth admiring.

  2. I also really enjoyed this one a lot.

  3. That’s a rather lovely postcard, and I like the strongly defiant pose of the woman in the stamp too.

  4. I love them - both the stamp and the mapcard.
And yes, you can see that the woman in the stamp is a strong and defiant one :)

  5. Great map card, I could pour over that for some time. Here's to the defiant women of the world.

Welcome to my postcard collection! I love hearing what you think of the cards - but spam WILL be deleted.
