Peshawar potter

Peshawar is a city at the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, the mountain pass between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which is also part of the ancient Silk Road or trade route connecting east, south and west Asia.  As a result it has a very rich history.

It supports all sorts of traditional culture, one of which is pottery.  It is a source of livelihood for many and the postcard shows a typical scene of the pottery being coloured.

The card was sent to me from Germany from someone who had been brought up in Pakistan until the war between India and Pakistan forced them to leave.

  1. I feel sure they sell their crafts for far less than they are worth.
