The Temple of Concordia, pictured above and dating from the 5th century, is in Sicily's Valle dei Templi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was part of a Greek colony, Agrigento, and in its time one of the leading Mediterranean cities.
The stamp shows a letter speeding on its way. This one did arrive relatively quickly but I often find the Italian postal service is less than speedy.
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"
I hope our postal service can be more speedy. Sometimes I start to worry for cards that hasn't arrived yet and the lapse time is already 40 days or so!
ReplyDeleteNice speedy symbolism, it is a bit of a lottery with post. Beautiful sunset on the card.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the speed depends on the wind...
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining in this week! italian post is faster than Russian post, to name one example....
ReplyDeleteI'm regularly amazed when looking at old post (which can have a cancellation for the place it's leaving and another for when it arrives at its destination) how quickly some of those letters and postcards arrived years ago.
ReplyDeleteI like the simplicity of the stamp's design. I also wish our PO is much faster than it is now.
ReplyDeletePostcards Crossing
I have a few of these stamps - and here I thought I had nothing to post this week.
ReplyDeleteI have had a few postcards arriving after a long time without an apology, so I guess we can blame the post office.
I think this stamp is the most common for a standard priority letter, I have received it a few times, too. The card is simply beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA simple stamp giving the impression of speed. I've reached a stage when any letters we receive are bills of just junk mail so speed is not important.
ReplyDeleteI like the stamp too
ReplyDeleteI almost choose that stamp from Italy for today's theme.:)
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Stamp:Everything Postal
What a lovely postcard. Sicily is definitely on my top-20 places to visit.
ReplyDeleteHi Sheila, it's been awhile so I thought I'd better play a little catch up. What a spectacular sunset shot of this temple. I would love to see it but I'm busy working on India temples.
