Sauna in Finland

I had to go back quite a long way to find stamps from Finland.  Once upon a time I could depend on receiving cards from Finland almost every week but now they are something of a rarity.  But I am delighted to be able to show this themed card and stamp from 2009.

According to the sender, the card and stamp rove that Finnish people are maniacs as far as saunas are concerned.  There is a sauna in every home and they are used at least once a week.  As she was writing her own sauna was heating, ready to welcome her family.

A post about stamps from Finland wouldn't be complete without some Moomin stamps.  I have more than I realised.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  2. Having visited Finland I know this is true. I visited the geological survey of Finland and they had a sauna there, at the workplace!
Great sauna card and stamp. Yes, Finland cards were more common in the past via Postcrossing.
    Thank you for participating!

  5. I stayed with friends in Finland, and yes there was a sauna in the home. As for the sauna stamp, I suppose we should be thankful they had the greenery with them ;)

  6. I didn't know the Finns loved their sauna so much. That first set of Moomin are so cute, who would not want to skip over the the stones with that one.

  7. That sauna stamp is too funny!!
At fist, I wasn't so enthralled with the Moomin stamps - but then I had never heard of them until I started Postcrossing. And just this week I received three cards from Finland (I agree, there aren't as many as there used to be) and each one had a different 2013 Moomin. I was thrilled!

  9. I imagine, in a country that gets such cold weather, a sauna is a most welcome addition!
