La Sagrada Familia

I don't appear to have posted a card showing the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona before, which is surprising.  It must be one of the best known churches in Spain.

I think this is one of the most striking views I've seen, showing the fantastic spires which still aren't completely finished. There will be 18 of them when finished (2026).  However it is the Crypt and Nativity Facade of the church that are particularly mentioned as part of the seven works of Antoni Gaudi  mentioned on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

  1. It is such a beautiful place. I was lucky enough to go to the top of the spires some 20 years ago. I assume that they have done lots of work since then. It was very unfinished at that time. Some recent interior pictures I have seen didn't look familiar to me. I couldn't have forgotten that much.

  2. I've been to Barcelona seven times, I think, and have ridden past Sagrada Familia but have never gone inside. Barcelona is one of my top ten favorite cities in the world, though...so maybe, God willing, I'll get there again. Right now, I am back in India for four months.

  3. It's still very unfinished on the outside, but the interior is open for business. Totally worth a visit- and you can buy tickets online in advance and skip the hours of ticket lines! I have some pictures of the interior here: http://knotmydayjob.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/gaudi.html
