Ballet

I never did want to be a ballerina when I grew up.  Even as a child I knew I would never manage to look like this, though if I'd seen this card, maybe I might have tried a little harder.

It is a card of a very beautiful stamp issued by the United States Postal Service in 1998 to honour classical ballet.

This is a post for Postcard Friendship Friday, hosted by Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy.

  1. Funny thing, I wanted to be a ballerina when I was little, too. I had a coloring book which had all the various dancing positions in them. I would practice them until I had them all down perfectly. We were too poor back then to be able to afford lessons. I still LOVE ballet dance. I adore this postcard, too. It is hard to believe it has been so long since I posted that postcard. Amazing! My niece just turned eight. Strange how quickly time passes. :D

  2. Happy PFF, Sheila. I love the composition of this postcard, the pose of the girl, the black background, the red letters at right. Just beautiful. I never dreamed to be a dancer and my family did not like to see ballet, but a friend of mine worked for a while at the National Ballet of the Netherlands and invited me for many of the ballet's performances. What a treat! I started to like both classical ballet and modern dance. I was amazed by the dancers' abilities: dance is like top sport!

  3. Oh I'm with you..I look more like Lucille Ball in that one episode. I find the ballet beautiful but they have such tough lives I feel

    1. LOL! They dance beautifully but have the ugliest feet. The dancers remind me of the story about the peacock.

  4. I love ballet. Misty Copeland as done much to infuse the art with renewed interest among young women. I'd give a year's salary to watch her perform. Houston's retired principal ballerina is teaching another generation to dance. That's some stamp!

I wanted to dance on my toes when I was a girl. Then I read about Isadora Duncan's life, and the toll the dance took on her feet . . . I got that real quick. :)

  5. I love this stamp! I love dance and her technique and form in this one picture is incredible, just look at her feet and her gorgeous turnout and bevel. I wish I could dance like that :) Yes, dance does kill your feet but the dancers I know are proud of their "battle scars."
