Australian Antarctic Territory

Pre-paid postage and no postmark as such. Date 15 February 2009.

Antarctica is the last great wilderness on earth. Activities in the area and surroundin seas are governed by the Antarctic Treaty. Australia was one of 12 original Parties to the Treaty, which came into force in 1961.

Australia issues stamps for the territory which are all Antarctic themes, but valis for posting anywhere in Australia. This card is one of the specially themed postcard released with every new stamp that the post office produces - so the postcard is designed to match the stamp and also have an interesting first day of issue post mark.
