Beach huts, or will the summer ever come?
These are all cards of beach huts I have recently sent out, and this morning I found myself reaching for yet another of the same theme. I think it must be showing a subconscious longing for some summer sun.
Beach huts have been around since the days of the Victorian bathing machines, supposedly their fore-runners, but now many of them are conversions of fishermen's huts, such as the ones in the fourth card. Some are no more than a place to store belongings while the owners are on the beach, others have been turned into homes from home. Even the Queen had one, until 2003 when it was destroyed by fire.
I always find them a very attractive sight, or maybe it's only the association of summer and the seaside.
This is a post for Postcard Friday, which is hosted by Beth Niquette at The Best Hearts are Crunchy.

I love these. The last picture reminds me of small beach houses in Far Rockaway that a friend used to rent, back in the mid-1960s. Just enough room to sleep and shower, not a fancy cottage by any means. Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteI have seen old photographs with those interesting swimsuits, of beach houses like these. I live on the West coast, and have never seen one before. I did not realize they are still used in some places! Wonderful postcards! Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea these postcards of beach huts. These light blue-white ones sometimes make a great view on beaches.
ReplyDeleteHere, the summer seems to be still far away too. Let the sun shine, and let's go to the sea, to the beautiful sea. Happy PFF.
I love beach huts especially if they are themed with their names. The card with all the gulls is very atmospheric; never seen any like the last card, a perfect place by the sea.
ReplyDeleteFun cards! I hope they bring good weather! Love the seashore! Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they have things like that in the U.S. They remind me of ice fishing houses used on frozen lakes.
ReplyDeleteYou and dakotaboo- wishing for sunny weather. It must be grey in England today!
ReplyDeleteAt the beach there are many...hutties.
ReplyDeletelove this post...i always take a walk along the english seaside when i visit the UK and this made me quite nostalgic! if it's any comfort, summer is taking a long to arrive here in italy this year too!

Those are great! I love the one with all the birds!
ReplyDeleteThese huts always remind me of a lovely fishing village and the distinct culture that makes them unique.
ReplyDeleteI love all the different colors, Sheila! Some people call them cabanas here in the U.S. Happy PFF! :)
