These are three out of four cards showing the stamps issued in 1990 to trace the story of astronomy from old star-watchers and map-makers to the modern day.
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"
That is the first time I think I have ever seen a card on Astronomy. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could still post a letter for 22p! :-(
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila. I've not seen these stamps before.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many countries have had astronomy stamps. I don't even know if the U.S. has.
ReplyDeleteAren't postcards that feature stamps the greatest thing? These are a wonderful set. Thnak you for participating.
ReplyDeleteI love the stamp cards. Interesting designs.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stamp cards. The intricate detail really captures the mystery and history of astronomy.
ReplyDeleteThe fourth stamp in the series shows Stonehenge.
ReplyDeleteI read a great book last year by Rosemary Hill called 'Stonehenge' - she discusses the stamp briefly, saying that it represents something like an official endorsement of the astrological view of the Henge. I'll see if I can find the quote if you're interested
Matt
I love that set of stamps. I only have 3 of them though.
ReplyDeleteI will elaborate by saying that these stamp designs are quite...elaborated. E-labor is the future! :)
