Astronomy

Armagh Observatory, Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope and La Palma Telescope

Newton's Moon and Tides Diagram with Early Telescopes

Greenwich Old Observatory and Early Astronomical Equipment

These are three out of four cards showing the stamps issued in 1990 to trace the story of astronomy from old star-watchers and map-makers to the modern day.

This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

  4. I wonder how many countries have had astronomy stamps. I don't even know if the U.S. has.

  8. The fourth stamp in the series shows Stonehenge.

I read a great book last year by Rosemary Hill called 'Stonehenge' - she discusses the stamp briefly, saying that it represents something like an official endorsement of the astrological view of the Henge. I'll see if I can find the quote if you're interested
