The ancient city of Fenghuang
In a remote mountain area of China this ancient city lies against the mountain side, facing the Tuojiang River. A narrow wood and stone bridge was the only access to the outside world. It used to be considered a wild frontier, marking the boundary between the central and south western regions of China.
Nearby is the Southern Great Wall of China, less well known and less elaborate than its northern counterpart, but nevertheless one of the greatest projects in Chinese history, and much of it lies within Fenghuang county.

Wow, rugged and amazing. Would love to see it in person.
ReplyDeleteThat is just stunning. I blinked a couple of times to make sure it was a photograph because it looks like a scene from hundreds of years ago.
ReplyDeleteYes,it's a small and beautiful city.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how often that river rises. Some of those residences seem in very precarious positions in high water situations! It is a very stunning photograph.
ReplyDeleteThis postcard is just a keeper. I have a FDC that featured Feng Huang town from Macau Post, and I hope to share it here with you to complement your post.
