Reached by 268 steps, this giant bronze statue of Buddha is also known as the
Tian Tan Buddha. Surprisingly, it was completed as recently as 1993. It can be found on Lantau Island, the largest of Hong Kong's islands. The island is also home to Hong Kong International airport and to Hong Kong Disneyland.
A lot going on on that island.
ReplyDeleteThat is one big Buddha. And you say it is also an airport?
ReplyDeleteSomething so serene about Buddha, a golden figure against a clear blue sky, surveying people flying around in a Disneyland universe...
ReplyDeleteFabulous card. I love Buddha statue postcards.
ReplyDeleteThat is something I learned on Mike’s Thailand blog too – that many of the temples and statues are modern and recently built! It is strange as they have such an ancient, timeless feel to them! I cannot wait until the day when I see these places myself.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful Buddha. I hope he is blessing all arrivals and departures to Hong Kong.
