Via Dolorosa, Jerusalem

The Via Dolorosa is in the Old City of Jerusalem.  It is a place of pilgrimage for Christians because it is considered to be the route taken by Jesus, carrying the cross, on his way to his crucifixion.  Hence the name, which is Latin for the way of grief or of suffering.

There are 14 stations of the cross along the 500 metre route but they can be hard to spot.  As can be seen from the photo on the card, normal everyday life goes on along it.

  1. That's awesome Sheila and brings to mind one of my favorite songs by the same name.

  2. That looks quite stunning. Maybe it is just me, but with the history, architecture and scores of my school friends and family living there, I really want to visit Israel. I'd live there too! Baby steps though. I only just managed to get Ste to agree to a visit one day.

  3. I'm with Emm. I met a member of the antiquities board in Israel, via online mind you. The culture is rich, and being I'm half Jewish, I have an itch to visit.
