Prudence Heward from Canada
Prudence Heward didn't come from Ontario but from Montreal in the neighbouring province of Quebec, however the map postcard arrived with this lovely stamp featuring one of her paintings, "Rollande".
Prudence Heward (1896-1947) was an artist at a time when woman had a marginal place in the art world. She specialised in depicting "strong, serious and defiant woman". A second of her paintings, "At the Theatre", was featured on another stamp at the same time.
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, now hosted by Violet Sky at "See it on a Postcard!"

Great map card, I could pour over that for some time. Here's to the defiant women of the world.
