Alishan Forest Railway, Taiwan
Postmarked Taiwan, R.O.C., and dated 31 December 2008. It arrived just this morning, so a journey of exactly two weeks.
The message on the back of the card tells me that Alishan is located in the Chiyi county of Taiwan, and that it's well known for 5 special features: the mountain railway, forests, clouds, sea, and sunrise and sunsets.
The railway is a network of narrow guage railways, originally built in 1912 by the Japanese government for logging. Now it is a tourist railway, and is run by the Forestry Bureau. The main line has several steep gradients and the vegetation through which it runs changes from tropical to temperate to alpine along its length.
